Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
The word out of northern NSW is that a third slot in the Protostar has been filled, even though Racing Queensland are yet to announce it. Apparently the slot runner is a Group 1 winner from NSW, circa the Bathurst region. They say it’s filly, and a real good one too. Four from four and […]
Bailey Wheeler’s riding just goes from bad to worse. He is on the horse in the Heathcote colours here displayed at the top. It’s the $1.75 favorite to win the race, but has been laid heavily on Betfair. Remember what I told you the other day about riders being paid by someone unidentified to get […]
If this isn’t the most uncontroversial protest in history, then I don’t know what is. Cejay Graham on the horse in white with blue sleeves and green cap comes in and cuts the horse in all blue with a little white in half . It cost the beaten horse at least a half to three-quarterds […]
If you’re a favorite backer with a death wish, Mt Gambier is just the place for you. Five of the six at the top of the market went down last night. The $2.25 fave in race 2 Starzinhereyes, trained by Marnie Bibby, led but then lost all rhythm at the bell and wobbled off the […]
New Zealand harness racing is quite distinct from that in Australia, in that the Kiwis put on races restricted to amateur drivers at TAB meetings, whereas over the ditch the amateurs are confined to driving in non-TAB races at the carnivals and shows, which given their skill levels – and with no knock to any […]

This is the leaderboard after the first 2 days of the ‘Bool carnival. Ciaron Maher is, as expected, on top with 4 wins. Ooh ah has won 3 of the 6 jumps races and both features, the Brierley and the Galleywood, with the Grand Annual still to come. Team Hayes don’t do much in the […]
The chances of Stern Idol ever running in the Grand Annual Steeple at the ‘Bool today were always 100-1, for the reasons that we wrote about early in the week, namely that the champion middle-distance jumper couldn’t get the 5.5km over 33 jumps trip of the Annual running down a well on roller skates. Ciaron […]
Jackie’s Gift as a weanling, with her mother Chevrons Sweetheart. They were sold as a pair in December 2021 for $22 000. Grant Forrest is that rarest of thing, a NSW harness racing trainer who only prepares trotters. The man based in Mount Fairy doesn’t generally go near pacers. If it doesn’t square gait, Grant Forrest […]
Des Gleeson has found that any Steward who lodges a protest shouldn’t sit in on hearing it, and the QRIC have implemented his recommendation. It sounds right doesn’t it? A Steward can’t be complainant, prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner. It’s an affront to the notion of justice. In the courts anyway. But think it through […]
