Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Race 5. BROWN BROTHERS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m TOSCAVALE ROAD – Due to an administrative error an application to remove the winkers from the gelding which was submitted before acceptances by Trainer E Sewell was not processed. Consequently, Stewards permitted the removal of that piece of gear. Lunged forward in the barrier just prior to […]
Race 2: ELDERS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200m Jockey R. McMahon was permitted to ride HEAVEN’S HIGH 3kg overweight with no other riders available. That’s from the Stewards report from Blackall on the weekend. Three kilos is rather a lot for a horse to be ridden overweight, far more than would be allowed in any other […]
Racing Queensland published the wrong race times for the Thangool meeting yesterday. Someone stuffed up and listed them in daylight saving time. Queensland doesn’t have daylight saving. It operates on Eastern Daylight Time, which is where the clock runs normal, not an hour ahead. Of course no-one from either RQ or the QRIC double checked […]
Here we go again. Two horses in Queensland beginning from the wrong barrier, without the Stewards or the Starter doing their jobs properly by cross checking or noticing. This is like a plague this is, one that has spread across the whole State. It’s the COVID of racing. The starter calls the horses up, not […]
There were just three Stewards on duty at the metropolitan Eagle Farm race meeting yesterday. Chief Steward Peter Chadwick was the Chair, and he had his Deputy Chief Daniel Aurisch and A. Schofield on the panel. That’s one less than they had at both the provincial meetings at Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast the day […]
This is the Stewards Report from Ipswich on Thursday. That judge, N Boyle. He couldn’t be the former QRIC Steward Neil Boyle could he? The one who got stood down for months over allegations about inappropriate texts and pics? That same bloke who resigned and went to Mauritius as the island’s new Chairman of Stewards, […]
Following the shock announcement that Ali Wade, the Director of Stewarding and Licensing at the QRIC, has been made redundant as part of a broom sweeping exercise by the new Commissioner Shane Gillard, it seems there may be further changes afoot at the top of the organisation. Rumours are that a certain senior executive with […]
The word out of the Breakfast Creek bunker is that Chief Steward Chadwick’s boss Ali Wade – the high achieving woman who kicked from being an accounts clerk in Rotorua on minimum wages to a $172 000 pa executive job at the QRIC in the space of just 15 years – has been shown the […]
Race 3: Arnie & Rene Rideout Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap – 1000 metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards interviewed the starter and viewed the available patrol footage to ascertain whether any runner had obtained an unfair advantage at the start. After doing so, Stewards ascertained that the starter had effected the […]
We have been writing for some time now about the terrible standard of Stewarding in Central Queensland since Ben Cooke assumed the Chief Steward role in December last year, and we have been doing so not because we hold any beef against the chief – we don’t – but simply because what we are saying […]
