Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
There’s been a fall at the last hurdle. Jockey Jason’s leaned over sideways in the saddle and slipped off. Gotta keep your balance Bonno. These 50 kilo Swedes can’t catch blokes with beer guts at first slip.
Apprentice Jade Doolan got her foot crushed against the stalls at the start of race 4. The Ambos had a look at it after the race and found that she’s suffered soft tissue damage, which usually means a badly sprained ankle. QRIC Stewards decreed that she couldn’t ride again until she had furnished them with […]
Stryking Princess is the horse in red and yellow in front near the fence. Broken Hero is the one in yellow with black cap behind him. They both move out a mile. But the leader looked to me to be a horse length or more in front of the other one, and it seems to […]
There are a lot of great trot drivers in Australia right now, a real mix of old, new and in between. For mine though one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. And no, it’s not Jack Callaghan, although he does finish a close second. The best driver in the country is Tex. Well, […]
Every bastard in the world wants to sell you a gambling system or tips. They try and make out that winning on the punt is a far too complex business for the average mug, and that your best bet is to shell out cash to them to find the winners for you, which is sort […]

A government that doesn’t get out of the way but helps to create the way. A real government is the steering wheel of a nation, not just […]
This finish for 3rd in the first race at Beaudesert yesterday was close, but the outside looked to me to have margin on the one on its inner, and I rarely call photos wrong. Just ask Merv Butterworth if you don’t believe me. I called his horse home the winner over the line in the […]
I spoke to you in whispers As shells made the ground beneath us quake We both trembled in that crater A toxic muddy bloody lake I spoke to you and pulled your ears To try and quell your fearful eye As bullets whizzed through the raindrops And we watched the men around us die I […]
The Ben Yole stable gets away with terrible things in Tasmania. Race fixing rorts are probably the least of them, but gee they stick in your throat. Yole trained the three horses running 1-2-3 on the fence in the 5th race at Launceston on Saturday night. The trio were all owned by Yole and his […]
