Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
In 123 starts for its previous trainer Terry Powter, the 8-year-old pacer Mister Rebel had never won in a faster time than 1.59.6. At the time he was sold to successful Victorian owner Mick ‘Mr Lucky’ Falvo a couple of months ago the old gelding had been out of luck for 24 starts straight, and […]
Ray and Janelle Cross – as in love as the very first day they met, or more. How long ago was that? Whos Countn? Ray Cross was old when I was a kid. He still is. 82 years of age Ray is. I remember him racing my Mum and Dad and Uncle John’s horses at […]
So if, as the QRIC so publicly state, the former State champion Benjamin Mark Currie is not a fit and proper person to hold either a trainer or strapper’s license in Queensland, why does Racing Queensland continue to prominently display his image on it’s website? Either Ben is totally unfit to participate in the sport […]
Brisbane trainer Lindsay Gough doesn’t like it when on the rare occasion we write about him, so we won’t. A picture tells a thousand words. Here is one from the Caloundra races yesterday. To save me the late night abusive phone calls, will someone tell Lindsay that the Stewards published it, not me. Thanks. It […]
Of all those New Zealand trainers or training combinations that have trained 15 or more winners this year, there are only really three that have recorded winning strike rates of better than one winner in four. In […]
Heidi Whalley is a passionate young horse thoroughbred owner, strapper, and mother who is happily married to jockey James Orman, and madly in love with him to boot. Or she was until Saturday anyway. A strapper that is. Now Heidi is a horse trainer, and she will become a damn fine one too. Reachforthestars – […]
A fortnight ago we wrote about the amazing run of success being enjoyed by trot trainer Tim Williams, and told you how he had improved a slow old horse named Manly Mach so much that he had taken 5.6 seconds off it’s previous best time when winning a race with it at Menangle. Well, in […]
I was talking to an encyclopedia of Australian racing and world breeding last night, and he told me about the day that Surround won the Cox Plate, and only minutes later the world turned black. It was a solar eclipse. I remember it. It was the biggest thing that had Geebung since the polo game. […]
This is recent CCTV camera from a Rockhampton pub. The bloke who gets whacked is Nathan ‘Grubby’ Day. He’s the good guy here. The bad guy is trainer Jamie McConaghy, the fella who hits him, gets ejected, and then comes back for a second crack while the bouncer’s back is turned. How it unfolds is […]
