Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
It seems that we were wrong about the mass of buy-backs being the reason for Racing QLD defunding the Redcliffe Yearling Sale. Apparently it was animal welfare concerns that prompted RQ to drop all support for the sale. We are told that one of the organisers of the auction has been charged with animal welfare […]
With three-quarters of the season gone and only three months left to run, we thought we’d have a look at how the various State premiership ladders are sitting around the nation. Here they are. NEW SOUTH WALES J-Mac has as usual a mortgage on the Sydney Metro title despite his frequent absences, with his 72 […]
Our recent story about Fugly, the yearling sold for a record low price of $250 at the Redcliffe sale, has attracted much comment. One wag with a deep knowledge of harness racing has reminded us of Manaroa, the champion pacer of the 1970’s who like Fugly was as ugly as sin. Not being a looker […]
Just when you though it was safe to go back in the water, trot tracks claim another victim to make it four for the week. Riggers River was only 5-years-old when it suffered a catastrophic fracture to the near hind pastern during its race at Gloucester Park on Tuesday night, with the injury deemed by […]
You rarely see horsed die on trot tracks. Tragically this week has been different. The biggest plunge of the day was landed yesterday at Menangle by owner Rex Horne and his mate and trainer Leon Jurd, when their pacer Lochiel, which had failed to run a place at its previous ten starts, was backed from $16.00 into $5.00 in the last ten minutes of betting to win the 6th […]

Our very own world’s largest punter Zeljko Ranogajec is in the news this week, after the Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick called a $92 million lotto win orchestrated by he and his team “the biggest theft from the people of Texas in the history of Texas”, more than “all the bank robberies, all the train […]
Pre Dawn Rockhampton trackwork incident could have led to massive injury and legal consequences. The track supervisor at Callaghan Park was running late yesterday morning. We don’t know why, he just was. These things happen. What happened next shouldn’t have though. The trackwork supervisor’s job begins before dawn. It is to drive around the track […]
