Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
It only took Bobby El-Issa four rides to land his first winner in five years at Warwick on Thursday. The hyper talented little rogue has beaten leukemia, a broken neck and the sins of his past to return to the saddle at an age (50) when most people have left it, and he done it […]
Ryan Wiggins lucky streak continued earlier this week when the QLD Racing Appeals Panel (RAP) upheld his protest against an 8-day suspension for careless riding he got at Cairns last month, and substituted it with a slap on the wrist, aka a reprimand. It was a strange decision, one in which I reckon the RAP […]
Ballard E. for the QRIC says they don’t agree with Murdoch’s submission that Duggan should get time served. Unlike Murdoch, who is a be bop jazz practitioner, Ballard E. appears to be reading word for word from a pre-prepared submission. Listening to her is extremely boring. It sounds more like a lecture than a submission. […]
Murdoch KC directs the Stewards to the decisions in the cases of Sildie Canda and Clayton Gallagher. Each got much lesser penalties than Duggan, and they were evasive and antagonistic toward Stewards, whereas Luke Duggan was cooperative throughout and made every attempt to assist Stewards to get what they wanted without him losing connectivity to […]
The QRIC lawyer probes Duggan about whether he told the Stewards about the other phones in his draw. Yes, he replies, he did. Duggan explains that he uses an authenticator app on his phone, presumably to verify and authorise payments and the like. He is asked how long he had been a trainer for at […]
The Rappers arrive and we are off and away. Duggan being the applicant, Murdoch goes first. He calls Duggan to the witness box front up. The witness takes the oath in the traditional way, on the bible. Murdoch asks his client how many phones he uses. The answer is one. The phone is used for […]
We are here today reporting live from the Racing Appeals Panel, and the appeal we are interested in is that of Luke Duggan, who as you might remember was charged with not handing over his phone to Stewards when directed to, and disqualified for 8 months. In his first week as a trainer. It’s a […]
The Victorian Racing Tribunal has handed gallops trainer John Leek Jr – who at age 72 seems a bit old for the last part of the name – a 3-year disqualification for attempting to drench one of his jumpers by the side of the road on the way to the races. There is no doubt […]
QLD Stewards questioned former South African jockey Brandon Lerena about his ride on Butterfly Style in the 5th race at Ipswich on Wednesday, and have left their inquiry open until they check the betting sheets. I don’t blame them, because Lerena’s hyper attacking ride didn’t make any sense, and it brought both his horse, and the […]
Caulfield Cup winning trainer Jim Mason moved up from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast a couple of years back to become the private trainer for Noosa crane and lift hire magnate Mike Sherrin, who runs his thoroughbred business under the name of Sheralee Racing. Sherrin previously had his horses with Desleigh Forster, but that relationship […]
