Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Central north-west NSW trainer Dwayne Brown has been training for a long time, and until recently hasn’t had a whole lot of success, winning only around $125 000 in prizemoney in the 22 years from 2ooo to 2022. After more than 2 decades of trying it suddenly seemed to click for Brown in 2023, and […]
He looks a bit like his trainer Swayzee, doesn’t he? I cast doubt earlier in the week on Jason Grimson’s ability to bring Swayzee back for a successful third prep in the Brisbane Winter Carnival, but on the evidence of his win at Menangle last night it appears that I may have been very, very […]
Trot trainer Ray Cross might at 85 be almost old enough to vote five times, but at an age when many people are either dead or in nursing homes he is still going strong,. Old Ray hasn’t lost his touch either. Last night at Melton he won his second race in 48 hours with the […]
Nigel McGrath is a cheat. By his own reckoning McGrath was giving his horses the banned substance propantheline bromide – a muscle relaxant that works like EPO by increasing the flow of blood – for two years during the Blue Magic scandal that resulted in 2 people dead, supposedly by suicide, although few believe the […]
NZ trot trainer Colin Evans was last year convicted of 30 animal cruelty charges brought by the SPCA, including failure to provide his horses with food or water, confining them in their stalls for excessive periods (up to 23 days), and beating them. He was sentenced to 160 hours of community service, banned from owning […]
You’d have to suspect that former greyhound trainer Laurie Rounds has more than a few problems dealing with authority. Last year Rounds went ballistic when a pre-entry inspection of one of his dogs he wanted to put into the Gap program was cancelled due to concerns abut the greyhound’s vaccination status, and threatened to shoot […]
There is a reason that several welts were dicovered on the rump of the pacer Family Tree after the completion of race 6 at Wagga on Tuesday the 7th of July. That reason is that the horse’s trainer/driver took it back to the stables after it had galloped at the start and taken no competitive […]
The theory sweeping through harness racing circles the nation wide is that the dream team of Jason Grimson (trainer) and Cameron Hart (driver) is no more. The theorists are claiming that the pairing which together won almost every race worth winning during their partnership of several years went their separate ways after the Goulburn Cup […]
On the 30th of April 2014 trainer/driver Rodney Pike was disqualified for 8 years after 5 of his horses recorded among the highest Cobalt readings ever seen in NSW after winning races. The levels that the horses recorded were extraordinart – 360 ug/L, 530 ug/L, 1200ug/L, 1440 ug/L & 2360 ug/L. At the time the […]
Now trainer Nick Walsh, pictured with Alfie back in his days as a young gun rodeo star Nick Walsh is a young Rockhampton gallops trainer and horseman in his mid-twenties, who in the few years since he started training has been leading winners in at an average strike rate 3 in every 10 starters, and […]
