Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Everything about The Everest was great, bar two things. The inclusion of the utterly uncompetitive Joyful Fortune and Ingratiating was one. Neither horse was ever any chance of winning this race, and would never have made the field under normal terms and conditions, but the slot system gave them walk up entry at the expense […]
One of the curious anomalies with the betting markets on Jockey and Driver Challenges is that there are no deductions applied for scratchings. What I mean by that is if you back a horse to win a race at evens and it is pulled out at the barrier you cop massive deductions off the face […]
I want to introduce you to Craig ‘Fergo’ Ferguson, aka Fungus. Fungus is a trot trainer. The most improved trainer in the world. In the four seasons from 2017-2020 he had 304 starters for just 17 winners. Horses trained by him won $171 954, at an average annual earn of $42 989. He was struggling. […]
I know the mare Angel of Montana very well. Very well indeed. In fact I think I might have been there at Karaka when she was purchased, and I might have followed her career from the day she was first hoppled up too. So when I tell you that she is no good, I ain’t […]
Why is that so many All Stars runners over the years have contracted viruses or tied up early on in their preps? It’s uncanny. I wonder what they treat them for to fix it? Wouldn’t it be lovely to know. Editor’s note: Akuta and Franco Mac ran 1-2 in the Group 1 Canterbury Flying Stakes […]
It’s a very comprehensive Stewards report from Blackall. I am sure the person who wrote it understands it. Shame the rest of us don’t.
The glorious vision of a rocking Royal Randwick was what Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys saw in his Everest dreams, and fortunately for racing in the premier state, the country’s best sporting administrator is here to stay. V’landys has led racing to financial freedom via winning the race fields court case and a mountain […]
The great bush warhorse Fabs Cowboy took his career win total to 49 by knocking them off at Blackall yesterday, courtesy of Tyler Leslight’s claim and a very pretty ride by the kid. 50 wins is a rare achievement on any race track, and it has long been the Johnson stable’s goal for this incredible […]
As most of the world knows, Danny Bougoure was booted out of his Eagle Farm stables so that the Brisbane Racing Club could give them to Annabel Neasham. I wonder if that was a smart decision in hindsight? The QRIC Integrity Investigation Team conducted a without warning inspection of the new Neasham stables yesterday. As […]
Queensland’s leading jockey James Orman went to Sydney yesterday for just one ride. He had three, but two of them were extreme outsiders who he had picked up the mounts on to pay the fare. The one he was really there for was Far Too Easy in the Kosciuszko. Orman rode it a treat too, […]
