Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
There is a little known standardbred stallion named Huntsville, who only served one season in Australia before being inexplicably banished from these shores for reasons unknown, to this author at least. That breeding season was in 2018/2019, when Huntsville served 205 mares who dropped 133 of his live foals, each of whom have just turned […]
Cruz Bromac won as predicted all right, and they even bet you $2.00 on the Vic Tote. I was wrong about the time though. Our guess was 1.51.9. He actually ran 1.51.3, six-tenths quicker. It was the fastest time he has run in years. No doubt he will be breaking the 1.50 mark next time […]
If you see Jack ‘Turbo’ Trainor walking toward you down the street this week, cross to the other side. At the moment this bloke is just pure bad luck. On Saturday night at Menangle he drove the $1.20 tote favourite Tungsten Terror in the 4th race. It was a funny betting race this one, for […]
Million-dollar earner Cruz Bromac will make his debut for the Jason Grimson stable at Menangle today. The former Victorian pacer was previously trained by Dean Braun and prior to that Mark Purdon in New Zealand. Having collected $1,060,645 in stakes throughout his career, Cruz Bromac spent more than a year away from the racetrack and […]
Here is another fascinating Steve Dolan/John Curtin combo pacer. This time the horse is not sired by Auckland Reactor, but by his father Mach Three instead. Same line, same genes, same blood, same cells, once removed. Tall Poppy is this pacers name. The other differences are that she is a mare, and that Steve Dolan […]
For the last 30 years people have been complaining that the trots have gone the way of the dinosaurs, never to return. I don’t believe them. Everyone bets on the gallops, but unless you are rich enough to buy one – i.e. worth a couple of mil or more in change – or keen enough […]
John ‘Lucky’ Lingard is the best writer in racing. Pam O’Neill is every woman in racing’s hero. Both of them are people I am very proud to call my good mates. Lucky says that Queen Pammy should be on the board of Racing Queensland. I totally agree. As Bob Hawke once said, anyone who doesn’t […]
I am buggered if I know who the horse trainer Jack Brown is. All I know about the bloke is: (a) He trained his first winner in 2013 (b) From 139 starters in a decade, Brown has trained just 9 winners (c) Jackie boy’s strike rate is 6% (d) On Saturday he raced a horse […]
Gee, I wonder why the Stewards are looking at G. Hall Junior’s whip use. He’s the one in the yellow and blue one off the fence in the death. I suspect little Gaz may have breached the whip rule. How about you?
The combination of growth hormone (GH) and recombinant erythropoietin (rEPO) is thought to be used particularly in endurance sports. Our objective was to reproduce a 2-week administration of rEPO microdoses alone or in combination with GH microdoses (three times a week) on healthy and athletic male subjects and to evaluate if GH had any additional […]
