Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Apprentice Rob Thorburn had a busy day on Saturday. Thorburn rode in the first at Eagle Farm (no good), zipped down the Pacific Motorway to the Gold Coast to boot home the winner of race 5 there, and then jumped back in the buggy to ride four mounts at Toowoomba (one second). All up the […]
Emma Stewart continued her annual pillage of the Vicbred series last night at Melton by winning all four finals that she contested, and her stable taking home around $370 000 in prizemoney. That’s not as much as in previous years, due to HRV slashing stakes, but it’s still a pretty good night at the office. […]
I have been having a long running debate with some prominent harness racing identities about which position in running is better for your chances, the 1-1 or 3 back the fence. Almost to a person they say 3 back on the paint. I disagree. So to give us a point of reference, I decided to […]
Now Racing QLD Chairman in absentia Matthew McGrath, who lives in Cronulla, submission to the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into the proposed sale of Rosehill Racecourse makes for interesting reading. First the former Australian Turf Club (ATC) Chairman refers to 6-time Group 1 winner and idol of the Australian turf Chautauqua as Chatacqua, which is bit […]
The story we published earlier this morning about APG funding sales races tonight was wrong. They are of course Vicbred Super Series finals being run tonight at Melton, not APG sales series races. APG are merely sponsoring the races, not paying the prizemoney. Our bad. Wd have made an appointment for a new set of […]
Graham Quirk (above) before …. And (below) eight years later …. Go figure Is former Brisbane Lord Mayor turned Racing QLD Deputy Chairman Graham Quirk the Benjamin Button of Sunshine State? Does he do Botox? Peptides? Is heavy make up for photos Quirky’s thing? Or does retirement from elected public office simply agree with the […]

There are nine board members of Racing QLD. Guess how many of them turned up at the awards? Three. The NSW based Chairman who came up for the night […]
What do you make of the Cloncurry races on Saturday? It is a four race non-TAB card that has 6 runners in each race, 24 in total. Four trainers prepare the 24 runners. Tanya Parry has 13. Shryn Royes 7. Toni Schofield 3. Ray Hermann 2. There will be a ton of scratchings for want […]
The news that Tevita Pangai Jr wants to return to Rugby League makes me remember back to the time when the highly talented but ill-disciplined forward walked away from the sport to become a boxer. Look how that turned out, with him being beaten into near-unconsciousness by a bloke with a career record of none […]
Racing South Australia has just announced that the name of its flagship race the Group 1 the Goodwood will from next year renamed the The McAvaney Goodwood, in honor of legendary broadcaster Bruce McAvaney. I don’t know about this. McAvaney is a legend of Australian sport who deserved his induction into the SA Racing Hall […]
