Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Well we didn’t back the winner, but $9 the place High Emocean wasn’t to complain about, and the knock is what matters. No-one else came out and potted Deauville Legend did they? Who else declared publicly that it wouldn’t run a place? No-one, that’s who. Just yours truly. Barrier 9 is a beautiful draw in […]
There it is. My reputation – for whatever it’s worth – is one the line. The favourite CANNOT win the Cup. In fact I will double down and declare that it won’t run a place. There you go. Let’s see how it goes. And how I do.
It was the night before Cup day, and all through the land Bookies were swinging satchels, taking bets on their online stands The prices were posted full of percentages set with care, In the hope that the punters would bet a fortune on a horse or mare The eager were up doing form and […]
Ciaron Maher knows how to play the handicapping system for maximum benefit. All the top trainers do. Which makes me wonder whether Gold Trip is only in the Cup to avoid the compression of weights, and leave his other four – Grand Promenade (53kg), Smokin’ Romans (51.5kg), High Emocean (50kg) and Interpretation (50kg)- way down […]
Matt Tripp should have the Edge Hill kid running his book. He knows how to count. The hot word from out sources down south inside Sportsbet is that the floundering and flailing BetR CEO Matthew Tripp has stuffed up big time with his $101 odds Melbourne Cup promo, and is under huge pressure from his […]
We have backed and tipped the last three winners of the Cup, two of them one out and Verry Elleegant in three. It’s a far more difficult race to predict this year due to the warped and somewhat weird handicapping. So we will try it in four. Here they are in order. Montefilia Without a […]
By Brad Waters, Gilbert Gardiner, Glenn McFarlane UK stayer Deauville Legend is set to take a tighter stranglehold on Melbourne Cup favouritism after Saturday’s barrier draw for Tuesday’s $8m showpiece. Deauville Legend is a dominant $3.80 favourite in TAB’s latest Melbourne Cup market after the draw, standing alone as the only runner under $10 in […]
It’s a complete moral, a complete and utter moral. Shane Ciurleo declared Deauville past the post in the Cup Them’s fighting words from Shane Ciurleo, the form man who came to fame and made his reputation by working with Ben Currie in the first iteration of his career. Many attributed much of Currie’s success as […]
Caulfield Cup winner Durston is out of the Melbourne Cup after failing his mandatory pre-race scan. The imaging revealed a “grey area” in his left hind leg, with specialists unable to determine whether it is “old or new or whether it is even something to be concerned about”. The withdrawal leaves legendary jockey Damien Oliver […]
Pull your pants up RJ. Buy yourself a pair of covered shoes too. And tell that bloke to stop walking like a chicken, before he lays an egg. Ronald Johnson – unsung champion trainer in the Hay region, weight loss guru, madman, and Brown Rice influencer – claims to know the winner of the Melbourne […]
