Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
You read our story yesterday about Globe Derby only having had enough horses entered to put 6 races on Saturday night’s card. Well the reason is that all the good horses went to Mildura to race last night. I counted 21 of them, which is a hell of a lot considering the distance they had […]
A fortnight ago the new CEO of Harness Racing South Australia Mr Dean Elliott made a huge announcement about the future of the sport in the State. It’s rooted. Of course that is not what the CEO said, but why would you listen to a bloke who tries to tell you that cutting the prize […]
Two horses on the front row locked wheels in the score up to the start of race 2 at Globe Derby last night. They came back and checked Aces Daughter, the horse drawn behind them on the back row. The interference caused that horse to gallop, and miss the start by miles. Caller Jim Jacques […]
Mark Billinger is a legend of South Australian harness racing. His whole family is. Dad Val fell in love with the trots as a kid driving a horse and cart around Adelaide delivering flowers. He became a hobby trainer and kept it up his whole life, even during the forty years he worked at the […]
We have obtained a copy of the Globe Derby (SA Harness Racing Club) Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2021, and the news is all bad. The club has $1.6 million in the bank. It owes Kevin Seymour $3.5 million that is payable by the end of next year, and owes a former […]

Harness racing is nothing like the gallops. Group races mean something on the turf, which is why NSW and Victoria are locked into war over the Group 1 status or otherwise of the Everest. There are no such problems over her at the trots. You can just buy a Group race any day of the […]
If I am reading the Stewards summary correctly – and I am certain that I am – then only 4 of the 9 winners at Globe Derby last night were actually swabbed after the race. Only two of the nine were swabbed before the race. That is outrageous. If you don’t actively drug test winners, […]
The Port Pirie trots in South Australia were cancelled at the last minute tonight, supposedly because of rain. It was only raining lightly, nowhere near enough to flood a track. The first race was scheduled for 4.40pm. HRSA Stewards called the races off at 3.47pm, and announced it on Facebook. Many participants whose horses were […]
A fortnight ago we told you about the dead horse drive by young James Kettel at Globe Derby, and opined that the way things were going so fast downhill in the stewarding ranks in South Australia it was more than likely the stipes would let the kid off with a slap on the wrist with […]
