Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Now perhaps I am seeing things, but it looked for all money to me that apprentice K. Swaffer (horse in blue and white on fence) had established a clear run up on the inside of jockey S. Wilson (orange colours, one off) in the first race at Townsville yesterday. S. Wilson ride dangerously to close […]
Well hasn’t it been a hell of a weekend in the COVID Vax Stakes at the tracks around Queensland? We’ve had the State’s leading race caller out of the box (the good news on that front is that the reports are that Josh Fleming is getting the jab this week), we’ve had some jockeys allowed […]
Weight has been the curse of many a great jockey since the days of Phar La’s rider Jim Pike. Normal people look at the scales in the bathroom and turn their heads and walk the other way. Jockeys step on them ten times a day, every day, and twenty or thirty times when they are […]
I guess it’s not surprising given his long history of battles with the bottle than Brad Stewart is one of them. Given his closeness age to Chris Caserta and the fact they were mates it’s probably understandable why Justin Huxtable is the other. We all know the QRIC aren’t there to make friends, but my […]
You would have read about the two jockeys who blew over the limit at Doomben on Tuesday morning. I know who they are but I’m not saying. Just like the QRIC aren’t saying that the reason they sent the storm troopers out with their breathalysers before dawn is because they got a tip from some […]
No matter how many tatts you have Pele, it’s hard to look tough when you’re bald, four foot three and bash sheilas Wanderson D’Avila is best known for hitting women, not men. A sneak cowardly elbow delivered at speed in a race sits at about the same depth of indecency as hitting a woman though, […]
It what has been a very tough week for racing, it is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of another wonderful young man in the sport, the popular NZ-based Malaysian apprentice jockey Yong Chew. As we told you just a short couple of months ago, Yong had been fighting a virulent form […]
The quest for the wagering dollar never stops. On Friday morning the body of popular jockey young lost jockey Chris Caserta was found in the Gold Coast surf. Just hours later the first race at Ipswich jumped, a field full of maiden gallopers ridden by grieving riders the same age or younger as their friend […]
The feature piece on apprentice rider Alisha Ross that you see in the photo at the top is published in the December edition of Race Magazine, the Racing Queensland publication that we old timers used to know as the calendar. There is a slight problem with the timing. Two months ago at the start of […]
Can you imagine losing your son to the sea, and being thousands of miles away while they are searching for his body? Of course you can’t, and you never want to. No-one does. It’s impossible to imagine it, until it happens. Due to COVID restrictions Chris Caserta’s parents can’t get over the border to wait […]
