Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
This is the Steward’s replay of race 9 at Eagle Farm yesterday, the race in which the rider of the winner Adin Thomspson was charged with improper riding. Thompson is about 5th or 6th near the fence, in the yellow and blue colours. I think I must be going blind. No matter how hard I […]
The Stewards charging apprentice Adin Thompson with improper riding on Saturday after his maiden Group winner in the Pam O’Neill Stakes attracted everyone’s attention, but most folk missed the adjourned inquiry into Jaden Lloyd’s beaten ride in the tenth race, the one right after. It is the one we should all be really looking at. […]
“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The hands can’t hit what the eyes can’t see.” Muhammed Ali If an Acting Chief Steward wants to lay down his credentials for a soon-looming job* by playing the tough guy, wouldn’t you think that he would try to get the wording of the charge 100% right before […]
The Brown Rice man teaches Brodie Loy to walk like a duck The last time I spoke to Ronald Johnson – the aka Brown Rice Man – was just last week. He was living in Toowoomba and about to make his way slowly up to Port Douglas via the inland route. Ronaldo wanted to camp […]
21-year-old apprentice jockey Emily Lang has been riding for just 2 days. Saturday at Nanango was day one. Emily rode a winner at her 3rd ever start. She rode two placings from her six rides too, giving her a strike rate of 16% the win and 50% the place. B-b-b-baby you hadn’t seen nothing yet. […]

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Danny Nikolic. Being a mug judge of footy must be a very difficult thing, even for the most deluded of men. Matchsticks are the currency, because the poor bastard doesn’t have a cent. I write it up on the board as cash, to give him a glimmer of […]
Danny Nikolic told me a long time ago that Ryan Moore was the best jockey in the world. As recently as last month I disagreed with him, and told him so. Frankie Dettori was the best I reckoned, with J-Mac second. I was wrong about Frankie. Maybe he was the best a couple of years […]
Jockey Michael Murphy is one year younger than James Orman, and not far short of him in raw natural ability, but in terms of maturity, discipline and stability the pair are a world apart. Murphy’s a great young kid too, a really nice bloke who would give you the shirt off his back. The sort […]
In another free promotion for the peterprofit.com website, today Ben Dorries has ‘revealed’ that a QLD jockey rode a winner while he was supposed to be out suspended. If you recall, we actually broke the story for 4 weeks ago. You always hear it here first. QLD Race Stewards – When Only the Best Will […]
