Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Dawson was madly infatuated with Joanne Curtis, the Judge says. Then he makes a rare – uncharacteristic – slip up. Harrison J. says that Joanne Curtis flew to South West Rocks. She couldn’t have. There is no airport though. It doesn’t really matter, because of what the Judge says next. He says that being separated […]
It’s money time. If Chris Dawson killed his wife Lyn, how did he do it? The Crown case is that Dawson killed Lyn sometime between 9.00pm on the 8th of January and midday the next day, the 9th of January 1982. Whether or not Justice Harrison believes it is the most important question Chris Dawson […]
This judgement is like a movie. One of the thriller kind. It rocks and rolls, it bends turns and twists, and the ending is real hard to read. Dawson looks gone to the world. But little things keep emerging that throw up hope for him. They are not strong. But a drowning man will grab […]
Harrison J shows that he is a fair man by slamming the evidence of one of the witnesses as irrevocably tainted by the influence of Hedley Thomas. Then he moves on to the Sixty Minutes interview in which Thomas describes Chris Dawson as a bad, bad man. And a murderer. The Judge says that some […]
We move to The Teacher’s Pet. Judge Harrison deals with the role that the podcast series had to play in the matter. It didn’t change anything from an evidential purpose he basically finds. No more so than a police interview would. Some police witnesses are good, some are bad. Some hate the target of investigations, […]
One of Chris Dawson’s defence team’s main arguments has been that the cops decided that he was guilty a long time ago, and refused to accept any other possibility, thus tainting the (belated) investigation into Lyn Dawson’s death. Judge Harrison swats that proposition away like a fly. Even if the police were biased against Dawson, […]
The Judge has just rejected all evidence of domestic violence that Chris Dawson may have perpetrated against Lyn. Their relationship was fine until Joanne Dawson came on the scene he says. Then all changed, changed utterly, and a terrible beauty was born. And here we are. That is all Dawson’s fault the judge says, without […]
Judge Harrison finds that simply because Chris Dawson wanted to leave his wife to be with another woman doesn’t mean that he wanted to kill her. Not beyond a reasonable doubt anyway. There needs to be more, the Judge said. The jury is still out. It always has been. Chris Dawson may have been better […]
The Crown adjourns for lunch. Chris Dawson looks destined for a life sentence. He has only glimmers of hope. Very slim ones at that. But where there is life there is hope. I’d still be getting my toothbrush ready.
There was no hitman, the judge says. It’s all bullshit. Witness Robert Silkman – the one we exclusively outed as a criminal – is lying. Joanne Curtis is making it up as she goes. The whole hitman thing as a crock. I’ve told you that from day one. But does it matter? There is only […]
