Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Sometimes in this racing life things happen, or – in the case I’m about to talk about, don’t happen – that render you speechless and leave you sitting there thinking if this is it, what’s that? Today was one of those days. 13 days ago the Chris Waller trained Durston raced in a 2000m Group […]
1 – Troy Walsh, trainer Nick Walsh’s dad 2 – Nick Walsh’s horse Age of Innocence 3 – Trainer Nick Walsh’s brother Nick Walsh is a baby faced kid in his 20’s, who has been training for less than 3 years. He is the new Ben Currie, a genius who can turn a slow horse […]
Shocking new information has come to light about how far the jigger boys from Birdsville will go to cheat, and how they do it, and why they don’t get caught. They are hitting their horses with Ice. Not the cold stuff, the Class A drug. Ice is the street name for Methamphetamine, or meth. They […]
It is only a little thing to most, but to journalists and racing writers it’s huge. Imagine if you discovered something that would extend your life by 10 years. It would be worth a fortune, and you would be rich beyond compare. Unless someone stole it from you, and became rich instead. Little shitty stories […]
My mate Andrew Rule is a great writer, much better than me. Rule is also a racing man, a real one, from a racing family. Which means he knows a whole lot more about jiggers than I do too. Here is how Rule describes it. Rule’s spot on. Not that I would know anything about […]
I was critical of Zac Butcher’s drive on the superstar Merlin at Alexandra Park last night, and told a couple of people so. To the three of them I say I was wrong, and to Zac I say that I am sorry. After watching it again (and again, and again, and ….) I can now […]
Natalie Rasmussen was the daughter of Vic, and grew up driving trotters from before she could walk. The boys used to win everything at the mini-trots until she came along. It wasn’t easy being a girl driver in QLD back then, you were just out there to win ribbons for making your horse look pretty. […]
Advance Party is a two-year-old filly that made her debut at Alexandra Park last night. This little girl is an absolute sensation. I knew how good she was, but I was sworn to secrecy and couldn’t tell you until now. Prior to last night the 2YO fillies track record at Alexandra Park over 1700m was […]
Chris Barsby is the best race caller in Australia. Not trot caller. Race caller. His style can seem formulaic and contrived at times during the low season, but when the big ones come around and it’s on, there is no more exciting caller in the world, or any more accurate either. Barsby is a genius. […]
Tasmania’s leading greyhound trainer and king of cruelty Anthony Bullock is noticeably absent for the 2nd meeting this week. Bullock never misses a meeting. There is a big storm blowing, but for the moment I can’t tell you why. Watch this space though. And batten down the hatches.
