The Victoria Cup – once known as the Winfield Cup, back in the dim, dark days when cancer stick companies were allowed to advertise their killer wares – has been a fixture on the Australian feature trot race calendar since 1975. Some great horses have won the race, with the honour roll featuring a who’s […]
Graeme Payne is a loyal employee of the Auckland Trotting Club whose job for 16 years until it was restructured used to be running the TAB at Alexandra Park. Payne was initially employed from 2005 to 2013 on an unsigned individual contract that paid him a miserly base salary of $45 000 per year for […]
This is Shani. She was from Germany and was attending a festival in Israel when Hamas terrorists kidnapped and murdered her. They then paraded her naked body on the back of a pickup truck around Gaza as people spat on and beat her. Never forget. pic.twitter.com/GIv1kUT6lv — PeterSweden (@PeterSweden7) October 8, 2023 It churns your […]
This is a still shot taken at around the 7 minute mark of today’s hitherto excellent Daily Telegraph mini series about the Everest. It’s a monumental stuff up. That ain’t the 74 year old master trainer John Hawkes. It’s his son Michael. Oh dear Daily Telegraph racing editor Mr Ray Thomas. Son. What have you […]
pic.twitter.com/CuP7OfcYWt — BKR (@BKR_acing) October 8, 2023 Robbie Waterhouse is a master of free publicity and usually does it well, but this one is absolute crap. Bookies aren’t not betting on the result of the Voice referendum because it’s politically sensitive. They are refraining from setting markets because the result is an absolute certainty, with […]
If Ray Murrihy’s inquiry into race fixing by team driving stretched any further than Tasmania, then surely he would want to have a look at race 4 at Cranbourne yesterday. Ben Yole had 4 runners in the race, 3 under his name and one under the name of his Victorian stable trainer, bowler and henchman […]
The 5 day selected yearling sales held in Lexington, Kentucky this week are traditionally a great guide and gauge of what is happening on the breeding scene. That’s a worry for the farms and clinics that stand or provide strands of stallions in Australia. Here is a brief summary of the hits and misses from […]
Sadly Archie your story re the walls come tumbling down aptly describes SA harness racing the moment. I write as an observer from over the border and was watching last nights Port Pirie races and saw what happened with the blackout. I know for fact that there was a horse from Mount Gambier that had […]
At the age of 73 Tasmanian trot trainer Mark Geeves might well be getting a little long in the tooth, but he’s certainly no mug. The bloke has been around harness racing a long time, and used to drive Flashing Red back in the days when it was raced and trained in Tasmania. He won […]
