Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Once upon a time the Australia Stakes was a prestigious race that was chased by the trainers of top horses, which is evidenced by an honor roll that includes the likes of Redelva, Schillachi, Hareeba, All Our Mob, El Segundo and Black Caviar (twice) among the winners. In recent years though the Australia Stakes has […]
Surprisingly Burwood Stud haven’t brought a whole lot of quality to the sale, with its 6 lots being predominantly by bargain basement sires. I can’t get enthused about any of them, just as none of Cobbitty Equine Farm’s draft excites me very much. The Vagg family’s drafts often feature foals by bargain basement sires and […]
Remember that story we wrote about Bailey Wheeler last night. Do you reckon this is a coincidence? Yeah right. As we always say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. By Ben Dorries 08:10am • 26 January 2024 Teenage Brisbane apprentice Bailey Wheeler has been stood down for the second time by his master, Group 1 […]
Stewards inquired into the reasons Aqua Cruiser (Angus Garrard) shifted out in the back straight on the final occasion when leading, which afforded Tactfilly Miracle (Adam Richardson) an opportunity to obtain a run to the inside which was trailing Aqua Cruiser at that point in the event, and gain a substantial advantage leaving the 550metres […]
Further to our story about Luke McCarthy’s rumored move to the US, a knowledgeable reader wrote in to say the following: It’s a very big stretch to say that Dexter Dunn and the two McCarthy brothers aren’t in the top 50 drivers in the USA. Admittedly on their number of wins they aren’t, but on […]
I don’t think that either Cyclones Jasper or Kirrily are most North QLD trainers first eye of the needle rodeo. I suspect that for many of the QRIC stewards it is. Which makes it all the more ironic that they are telling North Queenslanders how to suck eggs during a cyclone. The next thing you […]
Not that many months ago Bailey Wheeler was the red hot gun Queensland apprentice, riding winners in town at the same sort of strike rate as the top senior jockeys in Brisbane. Wheeler was going so well that he still sits a close 2nd on the metro apprentices ladder behind Ceejay Graham, who has had […]
There is a harness racing game called Catch Driver. The promoter of the game and co creator/ harness participant in Canada established a fond relationship with an Aussie syndicate manager who’s girlfriend was also developing an app. The friendship evolved to include a trainer in Australia from Menangle. This person who promotes Catch Driver (a […]
Trainer David Waite’s recent run of success as the stand-in trainer for owner Rex Horne, following the former HRNSW and Club Menangle chairman’s first choice trainer Leon Jurd’s disqualification for drug cheating continued last night at Penrith when he recorded a rare double. That made Waite’s tally 8 wins for Jurd and 16 in total […]
There is no better illustration of the parlous state of north island New Zealand harness racing than the fields for the Auckland Trotting club race meeting at Alexandra Park tonight. There are 10 races on the program but only 71 horses entered to run. Only 3 of the 10 races have enough horses in the […]
