Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
This supplementary report appeared at the start of Friday night’s Stewards Report from Mildura. We told you about the thieving six weeks ago, well before it became public. Jayden Brewin has some serious issues to deal with if he wants to continue with a career in harness racing. The first is sorting himself out, whatever […]
The whispers out of Victoria are that a formerly widely liked, respected and defended trot driver may be in more trouble than Flash Gordon, and it has nothing to do with giving up easy leads, hooking horses or having bets. People don’t realise the dreadfully powerful pull of the punt that compels pulsies (compulsive gamblers) […]
The Queensland harness Breeders, Owners, Trainers, (and) Reinspersons Association was once a lively and active representative body that advocated strongly on issues affecting the industry. Today it appears to have all but disappeared off the map. BOTRA has not released any news at all on its website for three years. No information is provided on […]
Last night in the Geelong Cup, for the second week in a row, the multiple Group 1 winning US owned Kiwi mare Amazing Dream led and got beaten in a race that she should have won. The week before in the VIC Cup she led in a first half of 58 seconds, which isn’t too […]
Everyone in the world except for Grant Dixon knows that unless he is coming from the back off an electric early pace, Colt Thirty One cannot run faster than 55 seconds for his last half mile. It is patently obvious, and clearly borne out by the Colt’s 90 career start race record. Without going back […]
Sometimes when I see what the Stewards get all worked up about I begin to wonder whether I am living in a parallel universe or something. Take race 3 at Albion Park last night for example. Grant Dixon is driving the favourite Beast Mode, drawn the 1. Obviously from that draw he either wants to […]
The 3rd at Globe Derby on Saturday night was not a race. It was a disgrace. A boat race. Premonition was favourite and drawn the 1, and its driver Mark Billinger had made it clear to anyone who asked that he wouldn’t be handing up the lead under any circumstances. Cavalryman was drawn on the […]
A week ago we told you about the deeply crooked trot driver Peter Russo having thrown up yet another positive swab to TCO2. Old habits die hard, but Russo didn’t have any Stewards to bribe this time. A week after the story broke, he has been stood down. No stays for you Russo. Good on […]

What the hell did driver Richard Williams hope to achieve by attacking the odds on favourite Asterism with his $23 shot Famous Three in the 6th race at Tamworth last night? Was he deliberately driving his horse not to win, but to get the short-priced favourite beaten? It sure did look like it to me. […]
