Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
What an absolute cracker of a meeting it was at Eagle Farm yesterday. Just six races, half of them maidens, one with only six runners and two with just eight. An early and main quaddie that overlaps in two races. What is the point? Running such a poor program costs as much it earns. There […]
Story by CNN In the weird and wonderful history of horse racing, Frank Hayes holds a unique place. On June 4, 1923 at New York’s Belmont Park, the 22-year-old (or 35, according to some newspaper reports at the time) won the only race of his career on the horse Sweet Kiss. He also became the […]
The curtain draws down on nearly a century of racing this Friday night at Wentworth Park and the crowd to farewell the spiritual home of NSW greyhound racing is going to be huge, with tickets already well and truly sold out. It will be the last time we ever see big crowds at the Sydney […]
Presidential candidate Rebecca Conlan, competing in the Masters Games, with her mum Barb, who lived in the street behind my parents in Aspley before moving up north to the promised land The election for President of the Cairns Jockey Club will be decided today. The Queensland Government has given us an update on The Next Lap, it’s plan for the future of racing in the Sunshine State. Basically the guts of it hold the phone. Here is what is happening, or for those who like firm, swift decisions isn’t. An ‘Oversight Committee’ full of public service bureaucrats is at […]
This above is the QRIC definition of an industry participant, as expressed in its newly released adverse weather policy. It’s bullshit in my opinion. If you watch the footy grand final that does mean you are an AFL or NRL participant? I don’t think so. Just like watching the 100m sprint final at the Olympics […]
The big news out of the north is that long time Cairns Jockey Club powerbroker Tom Hedley (above) is facing a challenge in the coming weeks for his position as club president, and it’s a formidable one too. Prominent local business woman and high achieving club committee member Rebecca Conlan (pictured at top) has thrown […]
Australia’s favorite punter David ‘Baldy Frolley’ has been to almost every race track in Australia, and declares that he will do them all before he dies, which gives him plenty of time to make it. But he will have to do it in new wheels. You see sadly Baldy’s old chariot carked it just before […]
