Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
It’s Easter this long weekend, and most people in Queensland have four days off. Racing Queensland has scheduled no race meetings on Good Friday, 11 race meetings on Easter Saturday, 1 on Easter Sunday, and 2 on the Monday public holiday. Call me the voice of reason and common sense (it would be a first), […]
You don’t have to be Einstein to work it out do you? Queensland is running 11 race meetings next Saturday, all bar two – Gatton and Toowoomba – all at times too close and tracks too far away to allow jockeys to ride at more than one. NSW has 6 meetings. Victoria has 4. Western […]
Some like my mate Gold Coast Greg say that Queensland has a desperate shortage of jockeys. I say that there are far too many race meetings run on a Saturday to find enough jockeys for. We are both right at the same time. The solution is therefore many-fold. The scope of the problem is clearly […]
Race 2: ELDERS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200m Jockey R. McMahon was permitted to ride HEAVEN’S HIGH 3kg overweight with no other riders available. That’s from the Stewards report from Blackall on the weekend. Three kilos is rather a lot for a horse to be ridden overweight, far more than would be allowed in any other […]
Racing Queensland published the wrong race times for the Thangool meeting yesterday. Someone stuffed up and listed them in daylight saving time. Queensland doesn’t have daylight saving. It operates on Eastern Daylight Time, which is where the clock runs normal, not an hour ahead. Of course no-one from either RQ or the QRIC double checked […]
That Queensland has a severe shortage of jockeys is well known to all by now. All except the people whose job it is to know, they being Racing Queensland and the QRIC. There are never more than about 6 or 7 jocks that ride at Mt Isa. So RQ schedule a race with 12 declared […]
Abandoned race meetings in South East Queensland could be a thing of the past as Racing Queensland looks to implement an all-weather track procedure from October. The recent construction of a Polytrack circuit at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club would allow abandoned turf meetings in SEQ to be transferred to the synthetic “after considering the […]
There are two TAB thoroughbred meetings being run this week in Central Queensland. One is on Tuesday at Mackay, the other is on Friday at Rockhampton. Both are provincial race meetings. They each carry the same prizemoney. But there is one big difference, and it is an absolutely inexplicable one. The Rockhampton meeting is restricted […]
As you can see there was a massive crowd today at Chinchilla. These Monday meetings in the bush are a great idea from a public spectacle point of view aren’t they? I will tell you what though, they go good from a turnover perspective when there is nothing else on. Each race is holding about […]
What you see above is the Stewards Report for the race meeting at Mingenew last Saturday, as published on the Racing Queensland website. There are two slight problems. The meeting was abandoned is one. The other? Mingenew is in Western Australia. Aren’t the people in charge of Queensland racing brilliant? God help us all. https://www.racingqueensland.com.au/racing/full-calendar/thoroughbred/meeting/mnew/20220312/stewards-report
