Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Zach Butcher has copped a lash here. Fair enough too. But what about the Stewards and the starter? Isn’t it their job to make sure that horses are in their right place? Mr Butcher admitted a charge in that he permitted his mare to start from the incorrect barrier position in Race 8. Mr Mulcay […]
Pembrook’s Princess Has run a few placing without having any luck during the running would suit racing out of Canterbury selling as owner only wants Canterbury based horses. https://standardbred.gavelhouse.com/lot/1204/pembrook-s-princess This ad is a load of absolute bollocks, which is I guess what you’d expect from the syndicator Andrew ‘the Canary’ Fitzgerald of Off N Racing […]
Majestic Cruiser ran 4th of 5 in a claimer at Ballarat on Boxing Day 2020. He had 22 starts after that, and won just one of them, in an NR80-94 at Melton After he ran a poor seventh in another NR80-94 race at Melton on the 26th of June last year against weak opposition, Majestic […]
Sundees Sun has just won the Group 1 NZ National Trot. That’s no shock. The time is. This superstar square gaiter has just trotted 2700m in 3.16.3. That is exactly 4 seconds faster than he ran to win this race last year. He’s smashed the national record into tiny little pieces, broken it by an […]
Just before Xmas the NZRIB Adjudicator put apprentice jockey Masa Hashizume out for three weeks for dropping his hands near the line in this ride above, and costing his mount (in red colours) second place. On Sunday at the Geraldine trots driver Sheree Tomlinson did almost an identical thing, only she cost her horse and […]

The horse on the inside with the white, green sleeves and red cap, and the horse in the brown and gold directly outside it dead-heated. Each rider protested against the other. The Stewards upheld the […]
Last week we told you about how the NZ Group 1 winning mare Need You Now – now known as I Need You Know – hasn’t been able to go a yard since transferring over to Luke ‘the Duke’ McCarthy from the stables of leading Kiwi trainer John Dunn. I am not sure if we […]
This one seems hard to believe, but at least three people who were at the track and heard it first hand just a couple of hours ago swear that it is absolutely true. As you will see in the video below, driver Tim Williams (black and white colours on the leaders back) has pushed off […]
We wrote earlier today about how NSW trainer Michael Muscat has just been given six years for returning a positive swab with a horse that started at long odds and ran a nondescript seventh at Bathurst. I bet he wished he lived in New Zealand. They reward bad behaviour over there. A trainer named Scott […]
Harness Racing New Zealand’s big idea to boost the sport was to put on a race series for low grade horses with oversized fields that was of no interest to anyone but current South Island owners and trainers. They called the series the RATTO. It was well named, because it was rat shit. Trackside in […]
