Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
We have written a few times about our concerns that driver Tim Williams is getting an inside run from the Racing Integrity Board Stewards by virtue of the fact that his father Brent Williams is a member of the Board, and therefore in effect the stipes ultimate boss. It happened again in the big Group […]
The Ashburton Flying Stakes is – like the NZ Trotting Cup for pacers – one of the silliest named races in the world, for if you didn’t know you’d guess for all money it was a mobile start over a mile. It’s not though, it’s a 2400m race from a stand. It is also one […]
It is the Firestone nightclub in Christchurch, circa 1980’s. No wonder all the Kiwis bolted and came to Oz. You’d kill yourself if this was the best a night out got. But hey, is that a young Mark Purdon sitting over in the booth on the left? He must have been wearing his Mum’s wig.
It’s a funny wee country New Zealand, that’s for sure. A trot man of bought the little hand-made model bike in the picture recently at an op shop, because the curio piqued his interest. In the four seasons from 2017-2020 he had 304 starters for just 17 winners. Horses trained by him won $171 954, at an average annual earn of $42 989. He was struggling. […]
I know the mare Angel of Montana very well. Very well indeed. In fact I think I might have been there at Karaka when she was purchased, and I might have followed her career from the day she was first hoppled up too. So when I tell you that she is no good, I ain’t […]
Why is that so many All Stars runners over the years have contracted viruses or tied up early on in their preps? It’s uncanny. I wonder what they treat them for to fix it? Wouldn’t it be lovely to know. Editor’s note: Akuta and Franco Mac ran 1-2 in the Group 1 Canterbury Flying Stakes […]
