Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
We have been writing about Group 1 winning Kiwi jockey Ryan Elliott’s weight issues for some time now, not to be nasty or a body shamer, but because we’ve been reliably told by several sources that the problem is caused by a lack of focus and discipline more than anything else. Brisbane’s champion jockey James […]
Almost a quarter of the way into the season, the Brisbane metro jockeys premiership is all over before it’s even really begun. With 62 winners in less than 4 months James Orman has already established a lead of 23 over his nearest rival Ben Thompson on 39, with Ceejay Graham 6 further back on 33. […]
Jamie Kah has ridden just 2 winners from 16 rides this year, one on a $1,30 fave and the other on an even money shot, both of them at the midweeks. That’s no surprise, for despite all the hoopla and hype and the international engagements that Kah attracts, the truth is that this is one […]
This Steward’s report from race 5 at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday is shite. Dan McGillvray didn’t just make contact with rival rider Jasper Franklin, he quite deliberately elbowed him in the head. It wasn’t careless riding, it was foul. Highly dangerous too. So was Franklin’s reprisal when he gave McGillivray the Malachi Crunch to […]
Fresh off the back of the Dale “Handbrake” Evans at Mackay and Jackson Murphy running and handling inquiries, we get two in one day at headquarters yesterday. First the chief Geoff ‘Gus’ Goold and his bad of merry stewarding men adjourned an inquiry into the $1.28 fav in a maiden plate over 2040m ridden by […]
Apprentice B. Nock, pictured with his somewhat gorgeous mum Braith Nock is a name to put in your little black book. The son of former gun NSW country jockey is not a horse, but a rider, just like his dad. First he rode bulls, like so many hoops from the bush before him, and he […]
It’s not a real great look for racing when the easing 2nd favourite for a race carves up the heavily backed 3rd favourite in 3 early sub 11 second sectionals in a 1400m race and torches it, and then the 2nd fave’s stablemate powers home over the top to win the race is it? That’s […]
Can anyone tell me what Tim Clark thought he was doing on Zoe’s Promise in The Wave? A mate of mine is convinced that Clark was riding to get the mare beaten, but I am not so sure. I simply believe that he had a brain explosion. There is merit in both theories, because every […]
It was a day of some top jockeys making poor decisions at the Gold Coast. Jamie Kah’s ride in the first on Iowa should have been the giveaway. What possessed her to think that she could kick for home on the turn on a limited stayer like this and still hold them all off all […]
Tim Clark should study the replay of the 2nd last race at the Gold Coast over and over so he can watch Craig Williams brilliance writ large and learn how to shoot the gaps. Clark is a great front running rider, one of the best in the land, as he demonstrated on Vanquished in the […]
