Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
The Waikato Flying mile last night was a brilliant race, and their 4 brilliant runs in it too. Sadly for Melbourne and his champion Copy That, there were only 3 good drives. Blair Orange’s wasn’t one of them. He got his pants pulled down. Mark Purdon on Akuta was the 1st to trick him. Purdon […]
Have a bloody look at this race will you? It’s the first at Phar Lap Raceway on Tuesday. Rocking Va Va has been backed for a stack. The punters who came out of trees to back it in are in a world of pain at the quarter pole, for driver Cheree Wigg has somehow managed […]
New Zealand trainer Phil Burrows got sprung drenching 2 of his horses on Cup Day. The RIB put him out for 10 years. Burrows appealed. The appeal was heard last Friday. This was well after the Sheryl Wigg judgement, in which grave doubt was cast upon the legality of appeals being heard by panels that […]
That wasn’t careless driving. It was just bad luck. The Stewards should have charged young Harrison with going over the marker lines. She was good for that. Instead they decided to get stupid, and charged her with being careless. It was bullshit. What, did they expect her to have prepared and practiced for a situation […]
Natalie Rasmussen is in my book the 2nd best harness driver in the Dominion. I rate them this way. 1 Mark Purdon 2 Nat the Rat 3 Zac Butcher 4 Kate Gath 5 Luke McCarthy 6 Greg Sugars 7 Greg Hall 8 Blair Orange 9 Nathan Jack 10 Jack Callaghan Tell us yours and I […]
This is the list of comparative sentences tabled in Sheryl Wigg’s appeal to the High Court against the sentence imposed on the amateur driver and trainer after an undercover surveillance team from the RIB caught her administering a paste made up of turmeric and black pepper to one of her horses on the day of […]
This is the issue that I was talking about at the end of the last story. In her application for a Hight Court judicial review of her manifestly excessive 19 month DQ for giving her horse a turmeric and black pepper paste on raceday, Sheryl Wigg argued that the panel was unlawfully convened, and as […]
The Appellant draws a distinction with the constitution of benches in the Court of Appeal, which regularly involves one permanent Court of Appeal Judge and two sitting High Court Judges. Considering the process outlined above, it is clear that there is an analogy, rather than a distinction, to be drawn between the Appeals Tribunal and […]
The NZ High Court decision in the case of Sheryl Wigg throws up a whole lot of very interesting issues. One is the applicability of the Penalty Sentencing Guidelines (PSG) that are used by the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) to determine a rule breach offender’s punishment. The Kiwi authorities have been using PSG that were […]
This extract is taken from the recent NZ High Court decision in the matter of Wigg v Racing Integrity Board. The Richards referred to is Jamie Richards. Te Akau Racing’s trainer after and before Mark Walker. Richards was an excellent trainer with an unblemished record – according to the Judge – who just so happened […]
