Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Ben Thompson is a very, very good jockey. He currently sits at number 3 on the national premiership with 92.5 wins for the season. So how do you explain his ride on Redford in the 7th race at the Gold Coast yesterday? Pilot error? A simple misjudgment? Or something a whole lot different again? Thompson […]
The aged 8-year-old pacer Hector has been through the hands of some pretty good trainers during its career. Emma Stewart. Kim Prentice. Andy Gath. Jason Grimson. Multiple Group 1 winners, one and all. Not a single one of them could get the horse to win in faster than 1.52.9. None of them were Mitchell Dawson […]
South Australian trainer Rebecca East had two runners in the Mount Gambier Pacing Cup last night, the heavily backed even money favorite Operative Line, and the well specked $8.00 shot Eastbro Chrissy. Operative Line broke a hopple shortly after the start, and was retired from the race. Favorite punters money turned to dust before they […]
Kevin and Kay Seymour have waited a lifetime to get a champion pacer, and invested a fortune along the way, and done so much more than anyone to keep the great sport afloat. Along the way the Seymour’s have helped an untold number of people in the game. Dan Costello the photographer from Albion Park […]
None of us have ever seen a greater win in a Miracle Mile than Leap To Fame’s last night, and even if we live to be 130 we never will. How could he have possibly won that race? Larry was wide, he was team driven against, he was under pressure for at least 800m, he […]
Son, you’re an idiot. I may be dead but I can still see better than you. The tangle at the start of the Miracle Mile wasn’t Luke McCarthy’s fault, it was James Herbertson’s. He came out under McCarthy’s horse, and Luke did everything he could to pull Don Hugo off. Bulletproof Boy got smashed and […]
Take a look at the start of the Miracle Mile and watch the two horses on the outside. Don Hugo is the widest, Bulletproof Boy is inside him. Luke McCarthy cleans him up. In his eagerness to get to the death so he could hand up to Larry and land the 1-1, Luke totally abrogated […]
I texted Maori Time’s owner, the ever affable Fred Crews, straight after the Hammerhead Trot to tell him that Keayang Zahara equaled his champion’s track record at Menangle but didn’t break it. True to his name Fred is on a cruise with his darling wife, and they were just rounding Cape Horn at the southern […]

For every year as far back as I can remember runners in either the Miracle Mile or the NSW Derby were held in the Menangle retention barn for two and a half days prior to their big Group 1 race, under 24/7 watch and guard. The idea being to make sure they can’t be drenched […]
