Western QLD racing identity Gary Peoples pictured) has been many things over his long career – bookmaker, Barcaldine Regional Councillor, former Mayor of Aramac (pop. 372), wagon driver, drover following in the footsteps of the bushranger Captain Starlight – but the one thing he hasn’t been in recent years is lucky at Birdsville.
