Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying
Former jockey turned trackwork rider Bruce Powell is clearly a slow learner. This week Powell was dealt with after returning his 3rd positive swab to the leafy green substance cannabis following tests conducted at early morning work at Deagon in September, following on from his most recent breach in late 2017 at Esk when he […]
Jockey James Baker got fined $200 for this ‘celebratory gesture’ after winning the 4th race at Mt Isa aboard his family’s horse Field Of Red. Given that it was his entire riding fee the penalty seemed a but harsh. It wasn’t as if Baker was gesturing wildly or standing up in the irons, it was […]
Today’s TAB race meeting at Mt Isa has to be in danger, with temperatures in the town predicted to soar to a fry eggs on the driveway 41 degrees in the middle of the day. Racing QLD regard 38 degrees as extreme temperature, and its heat policy decrees that consideration of abandoning or modifying a […]
Catch Me Out had raced twice before yesterday. Those runs were in Maidens at Scone and Hawkesbury. It ran last and was beaten almost 14 lengths at Scone, and finished 2nd last beaten nearly 13 lengths at the Hawkes. Those runs followed on from 2 trials at Newcastle where it had run last 12.44 lengths […]
Question time in WA Parliament, 1988 Australian Drivers Championship Who decided to give Tassie the hosting rights for the Australian Drivers Championship ? Wasn’t that Harness Racing Australia? Isn’t their decision an endorsement of TasRacings management of harness racing in the state? Or should that be mismanagement? I guess it’s no surprise given that the […]
One of the more interesting matters coming out of Randwick yesterday was the scratching of three James Cummings trained 2yo’s from the first race, leaving it with a field of just 7, a number that it is well known has a substantial negative effect on wagering turnover. It turned out that none of the trio […]
Mark Zahra’s decision to serve the 7-meeting suspension handed to him for breaking the whip rules in the Caulfield Cup between Cox Plate and Derby Day, allowing him to ride at both, simply goes to illustrate how bloody stupid the Australian suspension rules truly are. Now those who can count will realise that there are […]
SYDNEY Race 6 – Dashing Legend Joe Prides horse carries the grandstand with 61kg here, but with a rating of 85 against horses predominantly in their 70’s and 60’s he deserves the weight and it shouldn’t trouble him hugely. Dashing Legend ran some great races last prep in group affairs against much better opposition than […]
How strange it is that the state’s Chief Steward Josh Adams had to fly 1000km north from Brisbane yesterday to fill a spot on the somewhat bereft of experience Stewards panel for the Mackay race meeting. On face value it doesn’t appear to be the best use of scarce resources at the QRIC which ran […]
Gold Trip will have to rewrite history if he is to carry 58.5kb to win the Caulfield Cup on Saturday, for no horse in the modern metric age has ever lumped that much to victory in the time honoured race. Since the weight scale switched from stone and pounds to kilos in 1972 the highest […]
