Bloody Dog Trainers – They Should Be More Like the Gallops Folk – Genteel – Anyone Got a Stock Whip, a Jigger or a Needle? – Ssshhh, Look the Other Way

Remember this story below?

Re-read it if you don’t.

It’s about how the QRIC kept a dog with a broken leg out in the sun writhing in pain, and delayed the poor greyhound from getting vet treatment until hours after it should have because the Chief Steward on the day deemed an inquiry into a minor issue far more important.

Animal Cruelty Extraordinaire – Brought to You By the People Who Are Supposed to Prevent It – The QRIC

Two days after we published the story the QRIC published a press release about the trainer of the dog with the broken bone.

The release – which was picked up and republished far and wide – claimed that the trainer had been charged with race fixing in relation to a different race.

He hadn’t been.

It was impossible.

There is no such offence as race fixing in the Greyhound Racing Rules.

Nice hey?

Don’t mess with Doctor Dream, or with the QRIC at least.

Yesterday the same QRIC issued another media release.

This one was about a brand new process that it has introduced that will improve the management of on-track greyhound injuries.

From 1 April 2023, stewards will have the power to direct an injured or ill greyhound to be taken to an off-track veterinarian for follow-up treatment.

As if dog trainers need to be told that their greyhound needs a vet.

Contrary to the ridiculous opinions held by those in charge of integrity in the sport, greyhound trainers actually love their dogs,

It might be hard to believe by bureaucrats who sit on shiny chairs opening and closing desk drawers and shuffling paper all day when they are not at useless office meetings, but it’s true.

Dog trainers kick their husbands out of bed to let their injured greyhounds sleep in it with them, so they can monitor them all night.

I saw it just last week at my mate’s place in Victoria.

He and I had to sleep on the floor.

Don’t you worry about that though, because the QRIC think we are all scum.

I guess we don’t have fancy charcuterie platters and free flowing Moet champagne in the Directors lounge at the dog track.

We’re more sort of hamburger, chips and a can of coke folk down here on the lure.

It’s a good thing that the QRIC tell us how to suck eggs, and how to care for our dogs,

After all, if someone wasn’t there hitting us with a big stick to remind us, we might stray down the thoroughbred path.

Anyone got a stock whip or a jigger handy.

And hey, where did that list of retired gallopers v the ones that have been rehomed go?

You know, the 100 page one and the one that runs to 2 pages?

Perhaps you need to issue a direction about that one too Commissioner.

After all, nobody likes to see a dead horse.

I guess that’s why you hide them son.

It’s a bloody good idea.

You’d hate the mugs punters out there to learn the truth wouldn’t you.

Dead horse, dead horse, dead horse, dead horse, dead horse ….

How many have you rehomed again?

Where are all the others?

Sssshhh!
