Racing Victoria Turns on the Spin – And Exposes the Weakness of Its Flank

There have been a lot of knocks on the Racing Victoria Chairman elect Gillon McLachlan, most of them being that he lacks the racing experience to stand up toe to toe with Peter V’Landys in the internecine war between the two veto holding states on the Racing Australia board.

So RV have decided to fight back by putting on a bigger spin than a DJ high to the eyeballs on E.

There were a million stories to write about yesterday, but which one did the fully owned and paid for RV website racing.com choose to run?

A story about how Gillon McLachlan bred and owned a winner in a lowly maiden at Murray Bridge.

What a great Victorian story that is, the incoming Chairman there to save the game racing a horse in South Australia.

It’s a bit like an ANZAC fighting for Turkey at Gallipoli isn’t it?

The great Australian lie.

Just as the racing.com claim that McLachlan owned the dam is, when he didn’t, and the fetid spin about him owning the Murray Bridge winner when in reality he only has a 5% share.

Jumping out of the barriers with a blatant PR driven lie isn’t exactly the way to kick off a Group 1 clash isn’t it?

Or it wouldn’t be if the pair in the race were both elite standard gallopers.

PVL is.

Gillon isn’t.

Good luck to those who are backing the toff.

The street fighter’s half a furlong in front before they’ve even gone a 100 yards.
