Greyhound Racing NZ seeks judicial review of Government’s racing ban

Greyhound Racing New Zealand has applied for a judicial review of the Government’s December decision to ban greyhound racing.

It’s also seeking interim relief, in the form of a court order to stop the Crown working on the ban while the review is under way.

Last year Racing Minister Winston Peters said the Government intended to shut down the greyhound racing industry from July 31 next year, saying persistently high injury rates had convinced him that shutting it down was in “the best interests of the animals”.
