Everyone hates betting on Heavy 10 tracks, but it’s Saturday and the footy season hasn’t started yet, so what else are you supposed to do? Go dress shopping with your wife or something?
Puh-lease.
Let’s punt.
Here are the tips.
SYDNEY
Race 6 no 2 Profiteer
Mick Price has brought this fella up from Melbourne to chase easy pickings, and when your favourite in an Open 3YO is coming into the race off a win in a BM78 they don’t get much easier than this.
Profiteer was okay without being great in the Lightning, but running 4.5 lengths sixth to Home Affairs and Nature Strip is pretty good form for a race like this, as was his 7th in last year’s Slipper, his 6th in the Moir, and his narrow 2nd to Anamoe in the Todman.
Price’s galloper has heaps on these.
He just wins.
Race 7 no 3 Private Eye
This high-class Joe Pride trained bloke is a nob in the wet, goes real good first-up, loves the track and distance, and has a gun jock in Regan Bayliss aboard.
Neasham’s preference to take Zaaki to run on the dry in Melbourne has left this one of the weakest Group 1 races in years, and with all these ticks against his name Private Eye looks the one.
The $6 currently on offer is an each way gift.
Race 8 no 1 Anamoe
This bloke is Australia’s best 3YO in my view, and should improve lengths at his third run back.
They bet evens early, which was a gift.
That price has been knocked off overnight, but at $1.80 he is still very backable.
Get on.
MELBOURNE
Race 5 no 11 Shadow Devil
Stepping up several grades in class, but his two wins at the Sydney provincials have been outstanding, and when the hugely under-rated trainer Mark Newnham brings his horses south they usually go huge.
Overstep has the runs on the board, but he’s a risk with the big weight and that brings this fella right into the game.
Ollie to ride is a huge plus.
Shadow Devil is a great each-way bet.
Race 6 no 1 Zaaki
Just a super horse.
How do you beat him?
Answer?
You don’t.
Race 7 no 4 Forgot You
Forgot You ran a monster of a race first-up in the CS Hayes, and will take a lot of improvement from the run.
Goes well 2nd-up and has been set for this race.
Mark Zahra is in outstanding form at the moment and is hungrier than a wolf for winners.
This chap might give him another one in a tough race, and us too.
Race 9 no 10 Yonce
Looking to extend the picket fence to five as is a good bet to do so.
Up and comer in a field of not much.
Should send us off to the trots on a winning note.
Or with more notes than we have already won anyway.
