Vale Glen Baker – A Real Top Bloke

It is with great sadness and through a river of tear that I share the terrible news that QLD racehorse trainer Glen Baker has lost his brave battle with cancer, and passed away last night.

Glen was a very popular man in racing and beyond, and for very good reason. He was a great bloke who loved the sport and went out of his way to help others in the industry. He was universally liked and respected.

Prior to being diagnosed with the dreadful condition that took him from us far too early Glen was planning to make a trip up to Port Douglas so that we could enjoy lunch together. Sadly now that will never happen, or at least until I join him at the great race track in the sky.

I am much poorer for that, just as racing is poorer for Glen’s passing.

On behalf of Maggie and I, our family, and all the readers of Peter Profit we extend our deepest condolences to Glen’s wife Justine who loved him so, his daughter Bailie whose achievements in the saddle brought him so much joy, and to all the members of the Baker family.

I know first-hand from our discussions the depth and passion of the love he had for you all, and the pride and joy Glen felt in being loved by you.

Glenn’s physical presence is no longer with us, but his spirit will live with us for all time.

Kia Kaha family.

Stay strong.

An honest man here lies at rest,

The friend of man, the friend of truth,

The friend of age, and guide of youth:

Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,

Few heads with knowledge so inform’d;

If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;

If there is none, he made the best of this.

Glen did indeed.

He made the best of it all.

Stop bloody smiling mate.

You’re making us cry.
