The QLD coat of arms is a crock of shit, an antiquated, unrepresentative, sexist symbol of something this great State is not and doesn’t want to be, a paean to the days when we were a colony of England rather a free state of the great democratic nation of Australia.
Do you even know our coat of arms, which is QLD’s emblem, and what is on it or what it stands for.
This is it at the top of the page.
The animal and the bird propping up the shield are a red deer and a brolga.
They were not there on our emblem until 1977, when the much loved but totally out of touch Queen Elizabeth by royal decree demanded that they be included in our coat of arms.
Red deer are – unlike kangaroos, koalas, crocodiles, echidna, platypus, cockatoos, wombats, wallabies, emus and kookaburras – not native Australian animals, and certainly not native to Queensland.
They were imported into this country from the royal herd near London, where King Charles ancestors used to hunt them down and shoot them for fun, because they (the royals) are into blood sports wrought upon under-armed a totally defenceless dumb animals, and just because they are cruel.
Why would any person in power rip impoverished young kids away from their parents and transport them in chains to exile in god-forsaken places like Port Arthur and the Moreton Bay penal colony to raped, whipped and worked like dogs if they were kind?
That is not what Queenslanders do.
The red deer is a pest, vermin regarded under law as an invasive, feral species that be killed at will all year round provided that you hold a gun license and the land owner gives you permission to come onto his property and shoot them in cold blood, a bit like the aboriginal people in the old days not all that long ago I guess.
Brolgas are tall, ugly, sex-crazed, exhibitionist birds that live in wetlands, in a State where we hardly have any, so much so that we have to pass laws to protect the ones that we do.
How the hell then does a Brolga symbolise QLD?
The simple answer is that it doesn’t, and that it is just another archaic British piece of bullshit fiction.
Those two white animal heads in the middle are a bull and a ram, both blokes, which says all you need to know about the sexism, and the celebration of patriarchy and male hegemony contained in our coat, and this inherent in the hypocrisy of our outward image as a democratic State underpinned by respect and equal rights.
Speaking of equal rights, does anyone see an indigenous person or symbol or representation of any type in the QLD Coat of Arms?
Of course not.
That’s because it is a symbol of an overtly racist State, and if you don’t believe me then go and grab yourself a copy of Rachel Perkins brilliant history of the Australian Land Wars or come up to Far North QLD and I will take you on a tour around the massacre (mass murder) sites and show you the bones, and soon you will learn.
The things underneath the bull and the ram are a wheat sheaf and gold shucked from the earth rising from quartz.
In other words symbols of farming that is still important to the State economy and mining of minerals that today outside of places like Ravenswood, west of where I live in Port Douglas at the top end of Far North QLD, scarcely anymore exist, or not on any medium to large scale anyway.
The words Audax et Fidelis are Latin – what Queenslanders once racistly used to call dago, Itie or wog – and mean bold but faithful.
Faithful to whom?
God?
The King (God save him)?
Prince Andrew?
Wayne Bennett?
The Racing Minister?
Your wife like both those blokes were?
Who knows?
As I said at top, the whole thing is a load of shit.
Travelling north, and the two halves of the iron coat aren’t a homage to the bushrangers, but rather a symbol of the blood soaked knights of the realm who used to travel from Britain around the world to rape, plunder and pillage any village, town or city they could find, and conquer and colonize them too if they could, just like they did to us.
Above that is the Maltese Cross, originally the symbol of the Knights Hospitaller, a private army of the Pope that he sent out to kill Muslims and conquer their land.
It is a symbol of religious extremism, drenched and drowned in blood, which is sort of ironic, given where QLD, Australia and the world are at today.
The crown in the middle is the royal one, made of gold and fabulous jewels that you can’t find in England, and which were stolen at the point of guns from people around the world, including the Koh-i-Noor, or Mountain of Light, which was plundered from the Punjab where a 10-year-old kid who inherited the monarchy from his murdered dad was forced to hand it over with a gun pointed to his head.
That is probably symbolic of the true history of QLD too, if anyone can be bothered to take the time and effort to learn it.
The weird looking grass things at the top are sugar cane stalks, representative of an industry that built on the back of slave labor black birded from countries now known as PNG, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, the place where my dear wife and kid’s ancestor was kidnapped and stolen away shackled in chains in a ship’s locked hold at the age of 11, only four generations ago.
That is our coat of arms Queenslanders, and the emblem of our State.
Isn’t a cracker?
I’d rather it was a home made rifle, so I could shoot myself in the head.
Queenslander!
Queenslander!
Don’t it make you proud.
