Two years after a colt by Captain Treacherous out of Ravishing Girl was purportedly sold to a buyer named A. Portelli for $80 000 as a yearling at the 2020 APG Sydney sale, the now 3Y0 remains in the ownership of Australian Pacing Gold.
Given that the company is a registered not for profit organisation, and that the colt – now known as Captain Ravishing – is racing in the final of the $200 000 NSW Derby at Menangle on Saturday night, a lot of people would like to know why.
We are sadly unable to enlighten them.
It is a mystery to one and all, as is the question of what will happen to the six-figure prizemoney if the colt happens to win the famous blue ribbon classic.
It has always been our understanding that if a sale from an APG auction falls through, the lot in question is either returned to the vendor or resold on the open market. This has not occurred on this occasion and we do not know why.
