Crisp was the greatest jumper Australia has ever seen.
He was one of the greatest that the world ever did too.
The Aussie superstar was taken to the UK after he got weighted out of jumps races here, and he killed them, so much so that by the time it took the champion to get to the 1973 Grand National at Aintree he was rated so highly that the handicapper allotted him the huge burden of 76kg to carry over the torturous 7200 metres, a full ten kilos more than the great Red Rum was asked to carry.
Crisp broke the Grand National record by almost 20 seconds, but Red Rum beat him.
It was like watching Winx race Back Caviar, or Kingston Town take on Phar Lap.
You’ve never seen a race like it.
